In our academy you learn to be at the helm of your own career. You develop competencies and continue to build your career with a focus on your talents. Career crafting, as it is called. Career crafting is something you work on continuously. Our competency model provides structure for this process: the foundation underneath your growth. ‘Competence’ may sound a bit formal, but what it comes down to is: being good at something. What that something is, is something you’ll decide for yourself. That’s why you are at the center of it all. Here’s how the model works:

Deepen your self-awareness

Who am I?

Who you are and what you are good at makes you unique. That is why it is important to get to know yourself and your talents well, and to stay true to yourself. We work on your personal development by focusing on:

Your personality
Your personality consists of your unique set of preferences and traits. These determine how you think, how you experience the world around you, and how you respond to it. When you know yourself well, you understand what you like (and what you don’t), what gives you energy, what causes stress — and how you deal with it.

Your abilities
How do you learn new things or get better at something? This is determined by your natural aptitude. Think, for example, of an aptitude for abstract thinking or learning languages. Having less aptitude for something doesn’t mean you cannot learn it, but it will take more effort. What are your unique abilities — and what makes you excel at them?

What else characterises you
In addition, there are other characteristics that make you even more you. Like, for example, what you look like, what you have experienced, or your cultural background.

Strengthen your knowledge and competences

What can I do?

You have learned a lot during your studies, career and life. But there is much more that you’ll want to learn to grow in your job and realise your ambitions. We call this functional development. What you are capable of is expressed on the three levels:

Your knowledge
This is simply everything you know. About your field, but also about all sorts of other things, from general knowledge (also handy for pub quizzes) to how business processes work. You continue to develop your knowledge throughout your entire life.

Your skills
Your skills represent what you are able to do. You have developed these during your education or in practice. Think of presenting, writing code, or making calculations. You never stop developing your skills.

Your attitude
Your attitude determines how you deal with, for example, people, challenges, and situations. It shapes how you work, what priorities you set, and how you come across. Your attitude also determines how other people respond to you. During your education, relatively little attention is paid to this. We make up for that together.

Build your career

What do I want?

To consciously develop yourself, your knowledge, and your skills, it is important to understand the type of organisation you work in and what opportunities it offers. And—perhaps even more importantly—to know where you want and are able to go. In the short and long term. Together, we will answer these questions and think about the right steps to get there. This is what we call career development. We will explore:

Your current environment
Are you in the right place? What are you happy with? And are there aspects you want to adjust in yourself or your environment to strengthen the match?

Your future environment
What do you find important in your life and your work? What suits you? Where do you want to go? What does that world look like? And which competences do you need to develop to get there?

If you start working with all these competencies, you will grow into a skilled professional and take charge of your career. At the Formorrow Academy, we put a strong focus on this development and support you in finding your growth paths.
